Key Features

  • Windows 7 OS With Live Tiles
  • 5 MP Camera With HD Video Recording
  • 4.3 Inch Screen For A Cinematic Experience
  • SRS Sound & Dolby Surround Support
  • XBox Live Optimized
The HTC HD7 is a Windows Phone 7 smartphone featuring an impressive 4.3 inch SLCD display. The handset packs some serious hardware specs, thanks to Microsoft's stringent minimum spec protocol for all WP7 devices, including a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 756 MB of RAM, 5 MP camera capable of HD recording and a 800 x 480 pixel screen. The ample display acerage on the HD7 makes for an enhanced experience for watching videos, maps & while surfing the web.

Design

The HD7's massive 4.3 inch screen space makes it fairly obvious that HTC meant it to be a full-fledged entertainment machine. Reiterating the fact is a kickstand for handsfree landscape viewing, Dual speakers(with Dolby Surround & SRS Sound support) tucked away on both ends of the handset and seamless sync capability with Microsoft Zune. The HD7 is by no means a small device, but at just 11.2 mm thick it is by no means unweildy. The slick & curvy ergonomic chassis fits rather well in the palm and despite its obvious heft, transiting the HD7 never seems much of a hassle.

Connectivity & Features

The Windows Phone 7 OS is designed around a set of animated Tiles, which can be pinned/unpinned, dragged around, swapped anywhere on the homescreen. Some of the tiles are 'Dynamic', in the sense they can display current updates, like the Email Tile which would display the number of currently unread messages in your inbox.

The OS lets you 'pin' pretty much anything on the homescreen, from mails, widgets, bookmarks to albums. TheHD7 syncs with Zune for transfering music, videos and images, it even auto converts your files into formats that it can actually play. The windows mobile features not just Dolby surround but also SRS sound enhancement and for once it actually makes a discernable difference to the audio quality. HTC has also thrown in a plethora of equalizer settings.

Windows Phone 7, in many ways was Microsofts final shot at coming up with an user experience that matches up with that of Android & iOS. And they managed to come up with an impressive interface that rivals if not betters its competitors. Gone are the tiny icons, sluggish interface and maze of confusing menus. Windows Phone 7 in many ways, and fortunately so, is a total antagonist to its predecessor. The HTC HD7 features HTC Sense skinning and deserves equal credit, its widely regarded as one of the best UI skinner, and is famed for making Windows Mobile 6.5 actually look/work good on a smartphone(HTC HD2).

The HTC HD7 sports a 5MP camera that supports multiple shooting modes including Backlight, Candlelight, Sports , Portrait and Macro. Theres also a choice of metering, spot, center or average along with flicker adjustment. The HD7 smartphone is capable of HD recording(@720p) and swaps the Xenon Flash for a Dual LED Flash. The flash range is around 4 meters and is more than suffice to light up a average sized room.

The HD7 can connect to a plethora of online services, including Windows Marketplace, the cloud-based storage, SkyDrive, Windows Live, Xbox Live, Zune and the usual online Office docs and Hotmail. The phone has all connectivity bases covered, the HD7 features the latest Wi-Fi band is in and so is the 7.2Mbps HSDPA. There is no Flash support as of yet, but you'll be able to stream videos via the YouTube app.

Windows Phone 7 allows for pretty close intergration with Facebook and other social networking sites. It can scan through your Facebook friends list and dig up account info like email addresses, birthdays and phone numbers and match it with your email contact list. This integration also spills over to your calendar, any appointments made will show up along with the location & time, complete with a handy clash notification.

Battery & Storage

The HD7 is powered by a Li-Ion 1230 mAh battery which allows for 320 minutes of talktime on 3G and 380 minutes of talktime on 2G networks. This HTC windows phone comeswith 16GB of internal memory (ROM: 512 MB RAM: 576 MB).
